Acts 12 · Grade 3
An Angel in the Prison
Read the Story
King Herod began to hurt people in the church. He had James, the brother of John, killed. Then he put Peter in prison, with soldiers to guard him.
Peter was kept in prison, but the church prayed to God for him without stopping (Acts 12:5). The night before Herod would bring him out, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers. An angel came, and a light shone in the cell. The angel told him to get up quickly. His chains fell off.
Peter followed the angel past the guards. The iron gate to the city opened by itself. Then the angel left. Peter knew the Lord had sent his angel to save him.
Peter went to the house of Mary, the mother of John Mark, where many were praying. Rhoda was so glad to hear his voice that she did not open the gate. The others said she was crazy, but Peter kept knocking. Later, Herod was proud and did not give God the glory, and God judged him. But the word of God grew.
Memory Verse
