2 Timothy 1 · Grade 4
Not Ashamed
Read and Think
Paul writes to Timothy, calling him my beloved child. Paul thanks God and prays for Timothy night and day. He remembers the sincere faith that is in Timothy, which his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice had before him. Paul is sure it lives in Timothy too.
Paul reminds Timothy to stir up the gift of God. He gives the reason: For God didn't give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. So Timothy should not be ashamed to speak about the Lord, or of Paul in prison. God saved us by His own grace, not by our works. Christ Jesus beat death and showed us the way to life that lasts forever.
Paul is suffering for the gospel, yet he is not ashamed. He knows the One he has believed and is sure Jesus can guard what Paul has trusted to Him. Paul tells Timothy to hold on to the sound words he learned. Some in Asia had turned away from Paul. But Onesiphorus often cheered him and was not ashamed of his chain.
