Chapter 1Preschool–Grade 5

2 Timothy 1: Not a Spirit of Fear

2 Timothy 1 opens with the name Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus, writing to Timothy, his beloved child. Paul thanks God for Timothy's sincere faith, which his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice had before him. He reminds Timothy to stir up God's gift, because God gave us a spirit of power, love, and self-control, not fear. Paul is a prisoner, but he is not ashamed, because he knows the One he has believed. He thanks God for Onesiphorus, who was not ashamed of Paul's chain.

2 Timothy 2: A Good Soldier of Christ

2 Timothy 2 encourages Timothy to be strong in grace and pass the truth on to faithful people. Paul compares a believer to a soldier, an athlete, and a farmer. He tells Timothy to remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead. Paul is in chains, but God's word isn't chained. Even if we are faithless, Jesus remains faithful. Timothy should be a worker who handles the Word of Truth well, run from wrong desires, and be gentle with everyone.

Chapter 3Preschool–Grade 5

2 Timothy 3: God-Breathed Scripture

2 Timothy 3 warns that hard times will come in the last days, when many people will love themselves and money more than God. Paul reminds Timothy of how he followed Paul's teaching and saw the Lord rescue Paul from persecutions. Timothy should remain in what he learned. From infancy he knew the holy Scriptures, which make us wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. God breathed out every Scripture, and it is useful for teaching, so God's people are equipped for every good work.

Chapter 4Preschool–Grade 5

2 Timothy 4: Finishing the Race

2 Timothy 4 is Paul's last charge to Timothy: preach the word, be ready in season and out of season, and fulfill your ministry. Paul knows his time to depart has come. He writes, I have fought the good fight. I have finished the course. I have kept the faith. A crown of righteousness waits for him and for all who love the Lord's appearing. Paul asks Timothy to come soon and bring Mark, his cloak, and the books. The Lord stood by Paul and will bring him safely into His heavenly Kingdom.
