2 Thessalonians 1 · Grade 5
Glorified in His Saints
Read and Think
The letter begins with the same three names as the first letter: Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, writing to the assembly of the Thessalonians. They say they are bound to always give thanks to God for the believers, because their faith grows exceedingly and their love for one another abounds. In fact, Paul boasts about them in the churches of God for their perseverance and faith in all their persecutions.
Paul explains that their endurance shows God's righteous judgment, that they may be counted worthy of God's Kingdom, for which they suffer. God is just. He will repay those who trouble His people, and give relief to the believers when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels. Those who do not know God and do not obey the Good News will be separated from the presence of the Lord. On that day Jesus will be glorified in his saints and marveled at by all who believe.
With this hope, Paul prays always that God will count them worthy of their calling. He asks that God will fulfill every desire of goodness and every work of faith with power. He wants Jesus to be honored in them, and them in Him, all by the grace of God and of the Lord Jesus.
