Worthy of the Calling

Read and Think

The first verse names Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy as the writers. They tell the believers that they must always thank God for them. Their faith grows exceedingly, and the love of each of them toward one another abounds. Paul even boasts about them to other churches, because they stand firm with patience and faith through persecution.

Paul tells them God is righteous. He will repay those who trouble His people. He will give rest to the believers when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels. Those who refuse to know God or obey the Good News will be shut out from the Lord's presence. But Jesus will be honored among all who have believed.

So Paul prays always for them. He asks God to count them worthy of their calling. He prays that God will fulfill every good desire and work of faith with power. He wants Jesus to be honored in them, by God's grace.
