Why Israel Fell
Read the Story
Hoshea was the last king of Israel. He stopped paying the king of Assyria. So Shalmaneser came and put Samaria under siege for three years. Then he took the city. He carried Israel away to Assyria.
This happened because Israel sinned against the Lord. He had brought them out of Egypt. But they served other gods. They set up pillars and Asherah poles on every high hill. They made two calves of gold.
The Lord warned Israel and Judah by every prophet. He said, Turn from your evil ways, and keep my commandments. But they would not listen. They were stubborn like their fathers. So the Lord removed Israel from His sight. The king of Assyria brought other peoples to live in Samaria. They feared the Lord but served their own gods too.
Memory Verse
“Yet Yahweh testified to Israel and to Judah, by every prophet and every seer, saying, “Turn from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.””
