2 Corinthians 9 · Grade 4
God Loves a Cheerful Giver
Read and Think
Paul has boasted to the churches of Macedonia about how eager the Corinthians were to give. He is sending brothers ahead so the promised gift will be ready, and so it will be a generous gift and not one squeezed out of them.
Paul uses a farming picture. Whoever sows sparingly will reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will reap generously. Each person should give what he has decided in his heart. He should not give because he feels forced. God loves a cheerful giver. God is able to make all grace abound, so believers have enough of everything and plenty for every good work.
God, who gives seed to the sower and bread for food, will multiply their seed and increase their harvest of righteousness. Their gifts will meet the needs of God's people. They will lead many to thank God. Others will praise God for their obedience and will pray for them. Paul ends with thanks to God for His indescribable gift.
