1 Timothy 2 · Grade 4
A Ransom for All
Read and Think
Paul writes: I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks be made for all men. This includes kings and all who are in high places. Then believers may live a peaceful and quiet life in godliness.
Praying this way is good and pleasing to God our Savior. He desires all people to be saved and come to full knowledge of the truth. Paul writes: For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. Jesus gave himself as a ransom for all. Paul was sent to tell this truth to the Gentiles.
Paul wants men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger and doubting. He wants women to dress modestly and be known for good works. He also gives instructions about women in worship, pointing back to Adam and Eve.
