1 Samuel 25 · Grade 3
Kept From Revenge
Read the Story
Samuel died, and all Israel mourned for him. Nabal was very great, with three thousand sheep. But he was surly and evil in his doings. His wife Abigail was intelligent. David's men had been a wall to Nabal's shepherds by night and by day.
David sent ten young men to greet Nabal and ask for food. Nabal said, Who is David? He refused to share. David told his men to put on their swords, and four hundred men followed him.
A young man told Abigail. She hurried and loaded donkeys with two hundred loaves of bread and more. She fell before David and asked him not to avenge himself. David said, Blessed is Yahweh, the God of Israel, who sent you today to meet me! About ten days later, Yahweh struck Nabal, so that he died. Abigail became David's wife.
Memory Verse
“Blessed is your discretion, and blessed are you, who have kept me today from blood guiltiness, and from avenging myself with my own hand.”
