1 Chronicles 9 · Grade 4
Faithful in Small Jobs
Read and Think
Chapter 9 ends the long family lists. It shows who lived in Jerusalem after the exile. Verse 1 says Judah had been carried away to Babylon because they did not obey. The first people back were Israelites, priests, Levites, and temple servants.
The gatekeepers had an office of trust. David and Samuel the seer had first set them in their work. They guarded the gates on all four sides, stayed around God's house at night, and opened it morning by morning (9:27).
Other Levites counted the vessels in and out, cared for the flour, wine, oil, and spices, and prepared the show bread every Sabbath. The singers were employed in their work day and night. The chapter ends by repeating Saul's family, which leads into the story of Saul's last day.
