1 Chronicles 10: Saul's Last Battle
Saul and his sons fell in battle against the Philistines on Mount Gilboa. Brave men of Jabesh Gilead buried them. The chapter says Saul died because he did not keep Yahweh's word and did not ask Yahweh for help, so the kingdom went to David.
1 Chronicles 11: David Becomes King
All Israel came to David at Hebron and anointed him king, as Yahweh had said by Samuel. David took Zion, and it became David's city. David grew greater because Yahweh of Armies was with him. The chapter lists his mighty men, including three who brought him water from Bethlehem.
1 Chronicles 12: Helpers Come to David
Men from many tribes came to help David, first at Ziklag and then at Hebron, to make him king. The Spirit came on Amasai, who spoke peace to David. Men of Issachar understood the times. All Israel came with one heart, and there was joy in Israel.
1 Chronicles 13: Moving the Ark
David and all Israel agreed to bring God's ark to Jerusalem. They carried it on a new cart with joyful music. When Uzza touched the ark, Yahweh struck him, and David was afraid. The ark stayed at Obed-Edom's house, and Yahweh blessed his house.
1 Chronicles 15: The Ark Comes Home
David prepared a place for God's ark. This time the Levites carried it on their shoulders with poles, as Moses had commanded. Singers and musicians played with joy, and all Israel brought the ark up to David's city with shouting. Michal looked down on David's dancing.
1 Chronicles 16: A Song of Thanks
The ark was placed in the tent, and David offered sacrifices and blessed the people. He gave everyone bread, meat, and raisins. David gave Asaph a psalm of thanks, calling all the earth to praise Yahweh, for he is good and his loving kindness endures forever.
1 Chronicles 17: God's Promise to David
David wanted to build a house for God's ark. God said through Nathan that David would not build it, but God would build David a house: one of his sons would build the temple, and God would set his throne up forever. David sat before Yahweh and thanked him.
1 Chronicles 19: Kindness Refused
David sent messengers to comfort Hanun of Ammon when his father died. Hanun's princes said they were spies, and Hanun shamed them. Ammon hired Syrian armies, but Joab and Abishai encouraged each other to be strong and trust Yahweh, and the enemies fled.
1 Chronicles 21: David's Census and God's Mercy
Satan moved David to count Israel, and God was displeased. David confessed his sin. He chose to fall into Yahweh's hand, for his mercies are very great. A plague came, and David asked that it fall on him instead. At Ornan's threshing floor David bought the land at full price, built an altar, and God answered by fire.
1 Chronicles 22: Getting Ready to Build
David said Ornan's threshing floor would be the house of Yahweh. He gathered stone, iron, bronze, cedar, gold, and silver. He told Solomon that God had chosen him, a man of peace, to build the temple, and he told the leaders to help Solomon and to seek Yahweh with all their heart.
1 Chronicles 25: The Temple Singers
David and the leaders set apart the sons of Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun to prophesy with harps, stringed instruments, and cymbals. Two hundred eighty-eight skilled musicians were divided into twenty-four groups by lot, the small as well as the great, the teacher as well as the student.
1 Chronicles 26: Doorkeepers and Treasurers
The doorkeepers of God's house were organized by families and given their gates by lot, small and great alike. God blessed Obed-Edom with many sons. Other Levites kept the treasures of God's house, and some served as officers and judges for all Israel.
1 Chronicles 27: David's Leaders
Israel's army had twelve divisions, each serving one month of the year. Each tribe had a leader. David had officers over the fields, vineyards, olive trees, flocks, and treasures, and he had counselors and a friend named Hushai. David did not count those twenty and under, for Yahweh had promised to make Israel like the stars.
1 Chronicles 28: Be Strong and Do It
David gathered all Israel's leaders. He told them God chose Solomon to build the temple. He charged Solomon to know God and serve him with a whole heart and a willing mind, for if he sought God, he would be found. David gave Solomon the plans from God and told him to be strong and courageous, for God would not fail him.
1 Chronicles 29: Everything Comes from God
David gave his own gold and silver for God's house, and the leaders and people gave willingly with a perfect heart, and they rejoiced. David blessed Yahweh, saying all things come from him and belong to him. Solomon was made king, and David died at a good old age.
