1 Chronicles 3 · Grade 4
The House of David
Read and Think
Chapter 3 turns to the family of David. Six sons were born to him in Hebron, such as Absalom. David was king in Hebron for seven and a half years. Then he was king for thirty-three years in Jerusalem, where Solomon and Nathan were born.
Verses 10-16 list the kings of Judah. Each one was the son of the king before. The list runs from Solomon to Hezekiah and Josiah. It ends with the last kings before the exile.
Verses 17-24 follow the family of Jeconiah, the captive, after Babylon. Zerubbabel, who later led people home, is named here. In the New Testament, Matthew lists Jeconiah, Shealtiel, and Zerubbabel in the family line of Jesus (Matthew 1:12).
