1 Chronicles 29 · Grade 5
Yours Is the Kingdom
Read and Think
First Chronicles ends with worship. David reminded the assembly that the temple was not for man but for Yahweh God. Out of love for God's house, he gave his own treasure, then asked who would consecrate himself willingly to Yahweh. The leaders and people responded with gold, silver, bronze, iron, and precious stones, and they rejoiced because they had given willingly.
David's prayer in verses 10-19 is one of the great prayers of the Bible. It praises God's greatness, power, glory, victory, and majesty, for the kingdom is Yahweh's and he is exalted as head above all. Then David turned humble and asked who he and his people were, that they should offer so willingly. He said that all things come from God, and they had given Him only what was already His. He said that their days on earth are like a shadow.
David knew that God tests the heart and delights in uprightness. He prayed that God would keep this desire in the hearts of his people and give Solomon a perfect heart. All the assembly blessed Yahweh. Solomon was anointed king a second time, and David died full of days, riches, and honor. In the New Testament, Paul writes that God loves a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:7).
