1 Chronicles 26 · Grade 4
Guarding God's House
Read and Think
The doorkeepers came from the Korahites and the sons of Merari. Meshelemiah had eighteen valiant sons and brothers. Obed-Edom had eight sons, for God blessed him. His family grew to sixty-two able men for the service.
They cast lots for every gate according to their fathers' houses, the small as well as the great (26:13). The east, north, south, and west gates each had their keepers. The storehouse and the causeway were guarded too, watchman opposite watchman.
Other Levites served over the treasures of God's house and the dedicated things. Samuel, Saul, Abner, Joab, and David had all given gifts to repair Yahweh's house. Some Levites served outside Jerusalem as officers and judges, for matters of God and of the king.
