1 Chronicles 23 · Grade 4
A New Kind of Service
Read and Think
David was old and full of days, and he made Solomon king over Israel. He gathered the princes, priests, and Levites. The Levites thirty years old and up were counted. There were thirty-eight thousand men. Most would oversee the work of Yahweh's house. Others were officers, judges, doorkeepers, and musicians.
David divided them by the families of Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. Aaron was set apart to make the most holy things holy, to burn incense, and to bless in Yahweh's name forever. The sons of Moses the man of God were counted with the Levites.
David said Yahweh had given rest to his people and dwells in Jerusalem forever. So the Levites would no longer carry the tent. They would help the priests and care for the bread and the holy things. They would stand every morning to thank and praise Yahweh, and in the evening too (23:30).
