1 Chronicles 18 · Grade 4
A King Who Gave It Back
Read and Think
After God's promise in chapter 17, this chapter shows the promise at work. David defeated the Philistines, Moab, Zobah, Syria, and Edom. The Chronicler repeats twice that Yahweh gave victory to David wherever he went (18:6, 18:13).
David took the shields of gold from Hadadezer's servants and much bronze. Tou king of Hamath sent his son with gifts of gold, silver, and bronze. David gave all of it to Yahweh. Later Solomon made the bronze sea and the pillars from it.
Verse 14 gives the heart of David's rule: he reigned over all Israel and executed justice and righteousness for all his people. Joab led the army, Jehoshaphat was recorder, Zadok and Ahimelech were priests, and David's sons were chief at the king's side.
