1 Chronicles 15 · Grade 5
Joy That Follows Obedience
Read and Think
Chapter 15 corrects chapter 13. David again prepared a place for God's ark, but now he gathered the priests and Levites and explained what went wrong. Yahweh had broken out against them because they did not seek him according to the ordinance. The Levites sanctified themselves and carried the ark on their shoulders with its poles, as Moses commanded according to Yahweh's word.
Worship was organized with care. David told the chiefs of the Levites to appoint singers with stringed instruments, harps, and cymbals, lifting up their voices with joy. Chenaniah, chief of the Levites, taught the singing because he was skillful. Doorkeepers guarded the ark, and priests blew the trumpets before it.
Because God helped the Levites, they offered sacrifices. All Israel brought the ark up with shouting and music. Only one person did not rejoice. Michal saw King David dancing and playing, and despised him in her heart. The same event that filled Israel with joy revealed a cold heart in her.
