Zechariah 2 · Grade 4

The Glory in the Middle

Name Date

Read and Think

In his third vision Zechariah sees a man with a measuring line in his hand, going to measure Jerusalem. Another angel runs to say that Jerusalem will be inhabited as villages without walls, because of the multitude of men and livestock in it.

A city without walls might seem unsafe, but God gives the answer: for I, says Yahweh, will be to her a wall of fire around it, and I will be the glory in the middle of her. God's presence is better protection than stone. He calls his scattered people to come home.

The chapter ends with joy. God says, sing and rejoice, daughter of Zion! For behold, I come and I will dwell within you. Many nations shall join themselves to Yahweh in that day and shall be my people. Be silent, all flesh, before Yahweh.
