Zechariah 13 · Grade 4
A Fountain Opened
Read and Think
Zechariah 13 continues the promise of chapter 12. In that day there will be a fountain opened to David's house and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, for sin and for uncleanness. God himself provides the way to be cleansed.
God promises to cut off the names of the idols out of the land, so that they will be remembered no more. He will also remove false prophets and the unclean spirit. Lying prophets would be so ashamed that they would deny being prophets at all.
God then calls on the sword to awake against God's shepherd, so that the shepherd is struck and the sheep are scattered. In the New Testament, Matthew 26:31 says Jesus quoted this before his disciples scattered. A remnant will be refined as silver is refined. God says, they will call on my name, and I will hear them. I will say, it is my people; and they will say, Yahweh is my God.
