Return to Me
Read and Think
Zechariah 1:1 says Yahweh's word came to the prophet Zechariah in the eighth month, in the second year of Darius. The first message is a call: return to me, says Yahweh of Armies, and I will return to you. God reminds them of their fathers, who would not listen to the former prophets.
Three months later Zechariah had a vision in the night. He saw a man riding on a red horse among the myrtle trees, with other horses behind him. The man said they were sent to walk back and forth through the earth. They reported that all the earth was at rest. Then Yahweh's angel asked, how long will you not have mercy on Jerusalem?
Yahweh answered with kind and comforting words. He said, I have returned to Jerusalem with mercy. My house shall be built in it. Zechariah then saw four horns, which the angel said had scattered Judah, and four craftsmen who came to throw them down. The book records the angel's explanations without adding more.
