Psalms 99 · Grade 4
Three Times Holy
Read and Think
Psalm 99 has no title. It is the last of the psalms that begin, Yahweh reigns! It has three sections, and each ends with a cry that God is holy. Holy means set apart, perfect and pure. Yahweh reigns! Let the peoples tremble. He sits enthroned among the cherubim, the angel figures on the ark.
God's holiness includes justice. The King's strength also loves justice. You establish equity. You execute justice and righteousness in Jacob. Exalt Yahweh our God. Worship at his footstool. The footstool is a picture of the ark or the temple, where the great King's feet touch the earth.
The psalm remembers Moses, Aaron and Samuel, who prayed for the people. They called on Yahweh, and he answered them. He spoke to them in the pillar of cloud. You are a God who forgave them, although you took vengeance for their doings. God forgives, and he also disciplines.
