Psalms 93 · Grade 4
The King Above the Flood
Read and Think
Psalm 93 has no title. It is the first of several psalms that celebrate Yahweh as King. Yahweh reigns! He is clothed with majesty! He is armed with strength. Because God reigns, the world also is established. It can't be moved.
God's rule is not new. Your throne is established from long ago. You are from everlasting. Then the psalm pictures roaring floods. The floods have lifted up their voice. In the ancient world, the raging sea was a picture of chaos and danger.
But the floods do not have the last word. Above the voices of many waters, the mighty breakers of the sea, Yahweh on high is mighty. The psalm ends with God's word and God's house: Your statutes stand firm. Holiness adorns your house, Yahweh, forever more.
