Psalms 8 · Grade 4
Crowned With Glory
Read and Think
The title of Psalm 8 says it is for the Chief Musician, on an instrument of Gath, and that it is a Psalm by David. The psalm begins and ends with the same words of praise: Yahweh, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! God has set his glory above the heavens.
David says that from the lips of babes and infants God has established strength. Then he considers the heavens, the work of God's fingers, the moon and the stars that God has ordained. Compared to all that, people seem small. David asks, What is man, that you think of him? What is the son of man, that you care for him?
The answer is amazing. God made man a little lower than the angels and crowned him with glory and honor. He made him ruler over the works of his hands: sheep and cattle, animals of the field, birds of the sky, and fish of the sea. People are small, but God cares for them and gives them an important job.
