Psalms 67 · Grade 5
That All Nations May Know
Read and Think
Psalm 67 is only seven verses long, but it holds a big vision. It begins with words close to the priestly blessing of Numbers 6: May God be merciful to us, bless us, and cause his face to shine on us. God's shining face pictures his warm favor turned toward his people.
Verse 2 gives the reason for the request: That your way may be known on earth, and your salvation among all nations. Blessing is not a private treasure. God's people are blessed so that the nations will see God's way and his salvation. This echoes God's promise to Abraham that all the families of the earth would be blessed through him.
The psalm is built around a refrain: Let the peoples praise you, God. Let all the peoples praise you. At its center, the nations are glad and sing for joy because God judges them with equity. The harvest in verse 6 becomes a sign of greater blessing to come, until all the ends of the earth shall fear him.
