Psalms 62 · Grade 4

Waiting in Silence

Name Date

Read and Think

The title of Psalm 62 calls it a Psalm by David, and the title adds, To Jeduthun. Its key word is alone: My soul rests in God alone. He alone is my rock, my salvation, and my fortress. David is under attack by people who want to throw him down like a leaning wall. They bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly.

David speaks to his own soul: My soul, wait in silence for God alone. Then he turns to everyone: Trust in him at all times, you people. Pour out your heart before him. God is a refuge for us.

David warns against trusting the wrong things. People of low and high degree are just a breath. Don't trust in oppression or robbery, and if riches increase, don't set your heart on them. God has spoken: power belongs to God, and to him belongs loving kindness.
