Psalms 61 · Grade 4
A Strong Tower
Read and Think
The title of Psalm 61 says it is by David, for a stringed instrument. It is a short prayer. David says he is calling from the end of the earth, when his heart is overwhelmed. He may have been far from Jerusalem, or simply felt far from God.
His request is simple: Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. When we are overwhelmed, we need something bigger and steadier than ourselves. David remembers that God has been a refuge and a strong tower from the enemy.
David longs to dwell in God's tent forever, safe in the shelter of his wings. He prays for the king's long life and for God's loving kindness and truth to preserve him. Then he promises to sing praise to God's name forever and fulfill his vows daily.
