Psalms 56 · Grade 4
I Will Not Be Afraid
Read and Think
The title of Psalm 56 calls it a poem by David. The title says it was written when the Philistines seized him in Gath. David's enemies want to swallow him up all day long. They twist his words and watch his steps.
David answers fear with trust. When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. In God, I praise his word. In God, I put my trust. I will not be afraid. What can flesh do to me? He repeats this line later, which shows he is choosing trust again and again.
David also tells how closely God cares. You count my wanderings. You put my tears into your container. Aren't they in your book? God has not missed one tear. David ends with thanks: God has delivered his soul from death so he may walk in the light of the living.
