Psalms 48 · Grade 4
Tell the Next Generation
Read and Think
Psalm 48's title says it is A Song, A Psalm by the sons of Korah. It praises God for his city, Mount Zion. Great is Yahweh, and greatly to be praised, in the city of our God, in his holy mountain. The city is the joy of the whole earth, the city of the great King. Its strength is not its walls but God: God has shown himself in her citadels as a refuge.
Kings gathered against the city, but they saw it, then they were amazed and hurried away. The people say, As we have heard, so we have seen. What their parents told them came true in their day. They think about God's loving kindness in the temple. Then they are told, Walk about Zion. Number its towers. Notice her bulwarks, that you may tell it to the next generation. In the New Testament, Hebrews speaks of the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God (Hebrews 12:22).
