Psalms 47 · Grade 4

Sing Praises with Understanding

Name Date

Read and Think

Psalm 47's title says it is For the Chief Musician, A Psalm by the sons of Korah. It is a loud, joyful song about God as King. Oh clap your hands, all you nations. Shout to God with the voice of triumph! For Yahweh Most High is awesome. He is a great King over all the earth. The call is to all nations, not only Israel.

God has gone up with a shout, Yahweh with the sound of a trumpet. Then comes a burst of praise: Sing praises to God! Sing praises! Sing praises to our King! Sing praises! The psalm adds, Sing praises with understanding. Praise should come from minds that know who God is. At the end, the princes of the peoples gather as the people of the God of Abraham. In the New Testament, Paul says every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (Philippians 2:10-11).
