Psalms 43 · Grade 4
Lead Me to Your Holy Hill
Read and Think
Psalm 43 has no title in the text. It shares the same refrain as Psalm 42 and carries the same feeling. The writer asks God to plead his cause against deceitful and wicked men. For you are the God of my strength. Why have you rejected me? He is honest that he feels pushed away and goes mourning.
Then he asks for guidance: Oh, send out your light and your truth. Let them lead me. Let them bring me to your holy hill, to your tents. He wants to reach the altar of God, to God, my exceeding joy. Exceeding means more than anything else. In the New Testament, Jesus says, I am the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). The psalm closes with the refrain, Hope in God! For I shall still praise him: my Savior, my helper, and my God.
