Psalms 37 · Grade 4
Don't Fret
Read and Think
Psalm 37's title says it is By David. It is a wisdom psalm for people tempted to be jealous of the wicked. It begins, Don't fret because of evildoers, neither be envious against those who work unrighteousness. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass. Fret means to worry until you are upset. Instead, David gives a list: Trust in Yahweh, and do good. Delight yourself in Yahweh. Commit your way to Yahweh. Rest in Yahweh, and wait patiently for him. Cease from anger.
David promises that the wicked will not last, but the humble shall inherit the land. In the New Testament, Jesus says, Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth (Matthew 5:5). Better is a little that the righteous has than the riches of many wicked. A man's steps are established by Yahweh. Though he stumble, he shall not fall. David, now old, says he has not seen the righteous forsaken.
