Psalms 36 · Grade 4
Two Pictures
Read and Think
Psalm 36's title says it is For the Chief Musician and is By David, the servant of Yahweh. It paints two pictures. The first shows the wicked. There is no fear of God before his eyes. He flatters himself too much to see and hate his sin. His words are iniquity and deceit, and he plots iniquity on his bed. He has ceased to be wise and to do good.
The second picture shows God. Your loving kindness, Yahweh, is in the heavens. Your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Your righteousness is like the mountains, your judgments like a great deep, and you preserve man and animal. How precious is your loving kindness! People take refuge under the shadow of your wings and drink from the river of your pleasures. For with you is the spring of life. In your light we will see light. In the New Testament, John says that in the Word was life, and the life was the light of men (John 1:4).
