Psalms 32 · Grade 4
The Joy of Forgiveness
Read and Think
Psalm 32's title says it is By David, a contemplative psalm, meaning a psalm for careful thought. It begins with joy: Blessed is he whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is covered. In the New Testament, Paul quotes these verses to show that God counts people righteous by faith (Romans 4:7-8).
David then tells what happened when he hid his sin. When I kept silence, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. Day and night God's hand was heavy on him. Hiding sin made him miserable. Then he chose to confess: I acknowledged my sin to you. I didn't hide my iniquity, and God forgave him. Now God is his hiding place. God promises to teach him the way to go, and warns him not to be stubborn like a horse or mule. Loving kindness surrounds him who trusts in Yahweh.
