Psalms 30 · Grade 4

Weeping and Joy

Name Date

Read and Think

Psalm 30's title says it is A Psalm, A Song for the Dedication of the Temple, By David. It is a song of thanks after rescue. David says, I will extol you, Yahweh, for you have raised me up. He cried to God and was healed. God brought up his soul from Sheol and kept him alive. So David invites all God's saints to sing praise, for his anger is but for a moment. His favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may stay for the night, but joy comes in the morning.

David then tells his story honestly. When things went well, he said, I shall never be moved. But when you hid your face, I was troubled. He learned that his security came from God's favor, not his success. He cried to the Lord for mercy, and God answered. You have turned my mourning into dancing. You have removed my sackcloth, and clothed me with gladness. He ends, Yahweh my God, I will give thanks to you forever!
