Psalms 26 · Grade 4
Examine Me, Yahweh
Read and Think
Psalm 26's title says it is By David. It is a bold prayer. David asks God to judge him, because he has walked in his integrity and trusted Yahweh without wavering. He even invites God to look inside: Examine me, Yahweh, and prove me. Try my heart and my mind. Integrity means being the same on the inside as on the outside.
David describes the choices he has made. He has not sat with deceitful men or gone in with hypocrites. Instead, he will wash his hands in innocence and go about God's altar to give thanks and tell of God's wondrous deeds. Yahweh, I love the habitation of your house, the place where your glory dwells. He asks not to be gathered with sinners, and he humbly prays, Redeem me, and be merciful to me. He ends, In the congregations I will bless Yahweh.
