Psalms 22 · Grade 3
Why Have You Forsaken Me?
Read the Story
The title says this psalm is for the Chief Musician and is a Psalm by David. It begins, My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? The writer cries day and night. People mock him and shake their heads. But he remembers, Our fathers trusted in you. They trusted, and you delivered them.
He prays, But don't be far off, Yahweh. You are my help. Hurry to help me! Then the psalm turns to praise. He says God has not hidden his face from the afflicted, but when he cried to him, he heard. All the ends of the earth shall turn to Yahweh. In the New Testament, Jesus cried out the first words of this psalm on the cross (Matthew 27:46).
Memory Verse
“For he has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted, neither has he hidden his face from him; but when he cried to him, he heard.”
