Psalms 19 · Grade 4
Two Books About God
Read and Think
Psalm 19's title says it is for the Chief Musician and is a Psalm by David. It shows two ways God makes himself known. The first is creation. The heavens declare the glory of God. The expanse shows his handiwork. Day after day and night after night the sky speaks without words, and there is no language where their voice is not heard. The sun goes out like a bridegroom and a strong man rejoicing to run his course.
The second way is God's word. Yahweh's law is perfect, restoring the soul. His covenant is sure, making wise the simple. His precepts are right, rejoicing the heart. His commandment is pure, enlightening the eyes. They are more to be desired than gold, sweeter also than honey. Finally David turns to his own heart. He asks God to forgive hidden errors and to keep him from presumptuous sins. He ends, Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, Yahweh, my rock, and my redeemer.
