Psalms 15 · Grade 4
A Portrait of a Godly Person
Read and Think
Psalm 15's title says it is a Psalm by David. It opens with a question for Yahweh: Who shall dwell in your sanctuary? Who shall live on your holy hill? The holy hill was the place of God's presence, so David is asking what kind of person can live close to God.
The answer is a portrait. He walks blamelessly, does what is right, and speaks truth in his heart. He does not slander with his tongue, nor does evil to his friend, nor casts slurs against his fellow man. He honors those who fear Yahweh. He keeps an oath even when it hurts and doesn't change. He does not lend money for usury, which means unfair interest, nor take a bribe against the innocent. The promise is strong: He who does these things shall never be shaken. Believers know that only God's grace makes such a life possible.

Psalm 15 says to speak truth in your heart. Why does God care about what is in your heart and not just your words?
Keeping a promise even when it hurts is hard. When is a time you could keep your word even when it is difficult?
