Psalm 147 has no title. It is the second of the final Hallelujah psalms. Praise Yah, for it is good to sing praises to our God. It celebrates Yahweh, who builds up Jerusalem and gathers together the outcasts of Israel.
The psalm puts two pictures side by side. He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. He counts the number of the stars. He calls them all by their names. The God who names every star also bandages hurting hearts. Great is our Lord, and mighty in power. His understanding is infinite.
God rules all of nature. He prepares rain, makes grass grow, feeds the young ravens, gives snow like wool, and sends his word to melt the ice. Yet he does not delight in the strength of the horse. Yahweh takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his loving kindness. He gives his word to his people.
