Psalms 145 · Grade 5

An Everlasting Kingdom

Name Date

Read and Think

Psalm 145 is titled A praise psalm by David. It is the last psalm with David's name in its title, and it opens the great praise finale of the Psalter. Written as an acrostic, it praises God from A to Z. I will exalt you, my God, the King. The psalm celebrates Yahweh as the true King whose greatness is unsearchable.

The center of the psalm describes God's character in words from Exodus 34:6: Yahweh is gracious, merciful, slow to anger, and of great loving kindness. Yahweh is good to all. His goodness reaches every creature. All your works will give thanks to you, Yahweh. Your saints will speak of the glory of your kingdom, to make known to the sons of men his mighty acts.

Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom. Your dominion endures throughout all generations. This kingdom is marked by care: Yahweh upholds all who fall. You open your hand, and satisfy the desire of every living thing. Yahweh is near to all those who call on him. The psalm ends, Let all flesh bless his holy name forever and ever. In the New Testament, Jesus proclaims that the Kingdom of God is at hand (Mark 1:15).
