Psalms 125 · Grade 4

Secure in God

Name Date

Read and Think

Psalm 125 is titled A Song of Ascents and names no author. It gives a picture of faith: Those who trust in Yahweh are as Mount Zion, which can't be moved, but remains forever.

A second picture follows. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so Yahweh surrounds his people from this time forward and forever more. God is not only beside his people but all around them. The psalm promises that the scepter of wickedness won't remain over the land of the righteous, so that they will not be pulled into doing evil.

The singer prays, Do good, Yahweh, to those who are good, to those who are upright in their hearts. He adds that those who turn away to their crooked ways will be led away with the workers of iniquity. The psalm ends with a blessing for the people: Peace be on Israel.
