Psalms 121 · Grade 4
Kept by the Lord
Read and Think
Psalm 121 is titled A Song of Ascents and names no author. The singer says, I will lift up my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from? He answers his own question: My help comes from Yahweh, who made heaven and earth.
The rest of the psalm repeats one key word, keep. He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. Yahweh is your keeper. The God who made the hills is greater than any danger in them.
God is your shade on your right hand, like shelter from the hot sun. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. Yahweh will keep you from all evil and keep your soul. He will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.
