Psalms 120 · Grade 4

The Journey Begins

Name Date

Read and Think

Psalm 120 is titled A Song of Ascents, and its title names no author. It is the first of fifteen psalms in a row, 120 to 134, with that title. It begins far from home, in a place of conflict.

The singer says, In my distress, I cried to Yahweh. He answered me. He asks to be delivered from lying lips. He warns the deceitful tongue that it will meet sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper, a picture of God's judgment on lies.

He sighs, Woe is me, that I live in Meshech, that I dwell among the tents of Kedar! These were faraway peoples. He has lived too long with him who hates peace. I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war.

Take It Home

For families: talk about these together.
