Psalms 118 · Grade 3
The Rejected Stone
Read the Story
Psalm 118 has no title. It begins and ends with Give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever.
The singer was in distress. He called on Yah, and Yah answered him. Yahweh is on my side. I will not be afraid. It is better to take refuge in Yahweh than to trust in people. Enemies surrounded him like bees, but Yahweh helped him.
He asks to enter the gates of righteousness to give thanks. Then he says, the stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This is Yahweh's doing. This is the day that Yahweh has made. In the New Testament, Jesus quotes this verse about the rejected stone (Matthew 21:42).
