Psalms 116 · Grade 4

Saved and Grateful

Name Date

Read and Think

Psalm 116 has no title and names no author. It begins with love: I love Yahweh, because he listens to my voice, and my cries for mercy. Because he has turned his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live.

The singer describes his danger. The cords of death surrounded him, and he found trouble and sorrow. He called, Yahweh, I beg you, deliver my soul. God answered. Yahweh is gracious and righteous. I was brought low, and he saved me. He tells his soul, Return to your rest, my soul, for Yahweh has dealt bountifully with you.

Then he asks, What will I give to Yahweh for all his benefits toward me? His answer is worship. He will take the cup of salvation and call on Yahweh's name. He will pay his vows to Yahweh in the presence of all his people. He calls himself God's servant, freed from his chains.

  • The singer said the death of God's saints is precious to Him. How does that change how you view loss?
