Psalms 11 · Grade 4
When the Foundations Shake
Read and Think
The title of Psalm 11 says it is for the Chief Musician and is by David. David opens with trust: In Yahweh, I take refuge. Then he quotes advice from others. They say he should flee as a bird to his mountain, because the wicked bend their bows to shoot in darkness at the upright in heart. They ask, If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?
David does not run. Instead, he looks up. Yahweh is in his holy temple. Yahweh is on his throne in heaven. His eyes observe and examine the children of men. God tests the righteous and hates the wicked and those who love violence, and he will bring judgment on the wicked. The psalm ends with hope: Yahweh is righteous. He loves righteousness. The upright shall see his face.
