Next, he looks at the people around him. He will not tolerate the arrogant or those who secretly slander a neighbor. His eyes will be on the faithful of the land. Psalms 101 · Grade 5

Integrity Begins at Home

Name Date

Read and Think

Psalm 101 is titled a Psalm by David. It opens with worship, as he sings of loving kindness and justice, two qualities of God himself. Then the psalm turns into a set of promises for how a king will rule. Before he speaks about the nation, he speaks about his own home.

David resolves to be careful to live a blameless life and to walk within his house with a blameless heart. Integrity starts in private places, where few people see. He refuses to set any vile thing before his eyes and wants a perverse heart to be far from him. His question, when will you come to me, shows that he knows he needs Yahweh's help to keep these promises.

Then David turns to the people he trusts. He will silence secret slander and will not tolerate pride. His eyes will be on the faithful of the land, and the one who walks in a perfect way will serve him. In the final verse he promises, morning by morning, to cut off the workers of iniquity from Yahweh's city. A good leader cares about justice for everyone.

  2. Where does David say he will walk with a blameless heart?
