Psalms 101 · Grade 4

A King's Promises

Name Date

Read and Think

Psalm 101 is titled a Psalm by David. It begins with praise: he will sing of loving kindness and justice to Yahweh. The rest of the psalm reads like a list of promises a king makes about how he will live and lead.

First, David looks at his own life. He will be careful to live a blameless life and walk within his house with a blameless heart. He will set no vile thing before his eyes, and a perverse heart will be far from him. In the middle of these promises he asks Yahweh, when will you come to me?

Next, he looks at the people around him. He will not tolerate the arrogant or those who secretly slander a neighbor. His eyes will be on the faithful of the land. Liars will not be established before his eyes. The psalm ends with the king promising to remove the workers of iniquity from Yahweh's city.
