A Psalm of Thanksgiving

Name Date

Read and Think

Psalm 100 is titled A Psalm of thanksgiving. It is only five verses long, but it is one of the best-known psalms. It begins with a call to the whole world: Shout for joy to Yahweh, all you lands! Serve Yahweh with gladness. Come before his presence with singing. Serving God is meant to be joyful.

At the center is something to know. Know that Yahweh, he is God. It is he who has made us, and we are his. We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. We belong to God for two reasons: he made us, and he cares for us as a shepherd.

The psalm then pictures worshipers walking into the temple. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise. The final verse gives the reasons. For Yahweh is good. His loving kindness endures forever, his faithfulness to all generations.
