Proverbs 7 · Grade 4
Lay Up My Commandments
Read and Think
The father begins with tender words: My son, keep my words. Lay up my commandments within you. Keep my commandments and live! Guard my teaching as the apple of your eye. The apple of the eye is the pupil, the part we protect most quickly. Bind them on your fingers. Write them on the tablet of your heart.
He adds, Tell wisdom, You are my sister. Call understanding your relative. Wisdom will keep the son from being led into sin by flattering words.
Then the father gives a warning from what he saw. For at the window of my house, I looked out through my lattice. He saw a young man void of understanding. He was led into sin by flattering words, and sin brought him harm. The father warns his son not to let his heart turn to the ways of sin.
